Number of employees in Saudi reaches 13.3 mln in Q1

A total of 13.33 million individuals were employed across the Kingdom, compared to 13.58 million in Q4 2017, new figures from the kingdom’s General Authority for Statistics (GAS) showed.

 

Males accounted for 11.30 million, or 84.7 percent of total workers, while females represented 2.03 million, or 15.3 percent of the total workers.

 

Expatriates represented 76.4 percent of total employees in the kingdom, with 10.18 million individuals while Saudis made up 23.6 percent of total employees with 3.15 million individuals.

 

About 9.7 million workers, representing 72.8 percent of the total employees, were covered under social insurance, while 9.2 percent were covered by the civil service regulations.

 

Meanwhile, domestic workers accounted for 18 percent of total employees.

The unemployment rate among Saudi nationals rose to 12.9 percent in Q1 2018, compared to 12.8 percent in Q4 2017.

 

The Saudi male and female unemployment rate stood at 7.6 percent and 30.9 percent, respectively.

 

The total unemployment rate in the kingdom grew to 6.1 percent in Q1 2018 compared to 6 percent in Q4 2017, with males and females accounting for 3.4 percent and 21 percent, respectively.

Riyadh, Makkah and the Eastern Province had the largest number of employees, attracting 8.65 million individuals, or 64.9 percent of total employees. Saudis accounted for 28 percent of workers in both cities.
