U.S. energy companies cut nine oil rigs in the week ending on Aug. 24, bringing the total count to 860, General Electric Co.’s Baker Hughes energy services firm said in its closely followed report on Friday.
The number of gas rigs also dropped by four rigs from the previous week to 182. Gas rigs stood at 180 a year earlier.
