Assets of Saudi investment funds grew 26% in 2017

The total value of assets under management (AUM) by Saudi-based investment funds jumped 25.5 percent year-on-year (YoY) to around SAR 110.2 billion by the end of 2017, new data from the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) showed.

 

However, the number of investment funds in the Kingdom has declined to 273 by the end of 2017, from 275 funds a year earlier.

 

The number of asset managers increased to 41 last year.

 

NCB Capital led the market in terms of value of assets under management at SAR 32.4 billion, accounting for 29.4 percent of total market. The firm managed 25 funds with nearly 33,000 subscribers.

 

Samba Capital followed with SAR 16 billion worth of assets under management, and 27,000 subscribers.

 

Riyad Capital took the third place with assets standing at SAR 11.5 billion, and came first in terms of subscribers (71,000), dispersed across 37 funds under management.

Assets of locally-managed funds increased by 29 percent YoY to SAR 91.1 billion in the same period. Assets of foreign managed funds also rose 11 percent YoY to SAR 19.1 billion.

 

Investments in foreign assets stood at nearly 17.3 percent of total funds' assets by the end of 2017.

 

The total number of subscribers grew by 6.3 percent YoY to 238,000.

Investment in foreign and local equity markets rose 10 percent YoY to SAR 5.4 billion and SAR 18 billion, respectively.

 

Fund investments in local stocks represented 16.3 percent of total investments in 2017, compared to 18.7 percent a year earlier.
