Saudi Electricity Co. slashed diesel usage by 14 million barrels in the first eight month of 2018, Al-Eqtisadiah reported, citing chief executive Ziyad Al-Shiha.
Operating efficiency of power plants reached 39.9 percent this year versus 38.3 percent a year earlier, which helped cut fuel consumption and promoted economical operating options, he added.
Instead of diesel and unrefined fuel, several projects running on natural gas and heavy fuel oil were implemented in order to boost efficiency.
Increasing efficiency in power plants across the Kingdom has significantly contributed in decreasing dependency on fuel equivalent, he added.
