Dubai-based ride-hailing app Careem is planning to replace its car fleet with electric cars shortly, according to a senior company executive.

“We will soon swap our cars with electric cars," Khaled Nuseibeh, general manager, Careem, said addressing the Startup MGZN’s conference in Bahrain last week.

In June, the company announced the introduction of an electric car type option in the UAE with the fleet comprising Model S Tesla cars and fares starting at AED 60.

Careem also plans to employ over 200 refugees as part of its programme with the United Nations, Nuseibeh added.
