The number of manufacturing firms operating in Saudi Arabia has reached 108,800 by the end of 2017, data issued by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.
The study showed that the net assets of the entire sector reached SAR 43.7 billion. While its combined revenue amounted to SAR 671,700 billion in 2017. Of which the chemicals sector held the largest share at SAR 181,600 billion.
Coal and petrochemicals sectors came in second with a combined annual revenue of SAR 142,900 billion.
The report indicated that microenterprises that hire less than five employees constituted 78 percent of the sector.
Metal products firms, with the exception of tools and equipment, topped the list of Saudi manufacturers by the number of workers, hiring a total of 139,800 workers out of 993,500 employed in the sector.
Firms producing non-ferrous metals and other products followed with 135,300 workers.
