Saudi Arabia will eventually establish agency offices for the electric vehicles (EVs), Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper has reported citing Saudi Minister of Transport, Nabil Al-Amoudi.

“EV imports require more infrastructure investments in car charging stations and other related facilities,” he noted.

For Riyadh Metro, construction works reached an advanced stage, said Al-Amoudi, adding that studies related to Jeddah as well as Mecca Metro projects are being finalized. The rail network in other cities will be considered later on, with priority to Mecca Metro, he noted.

The Saudi ministry is working on the railways nationalization plan, aimed at taking the rail transport assets into public ownership. In this regard, a $267 million agreement was inked between the Saudi Railway Company (SAR) and US-based Greenbrier Corporation for manufacturing train wagons in the Kingdom.

The transport ministry is seeking to double the size of the existing railway network (5,000 km).
