King Salman launches two giant power projects in Al-Jouf

Saudi Arabia’s King Salman yesterday launched two giant power projects in Al-Jouf Province within King Salman Renewable Energy Initiative.

Sakaka solar plant’s scope of work consists of a solar power facility located at Sakaka at an estimated cost of SAR 1.13 billion. The facility is expected to have a total capacity output of 300 MW, and will generate enough power supply for nearly 45,000 homes. It is also projected to provide 390 job opportunities and is forecast to contribute around SAR 450 million to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product (GDP).  

The $500 million Domat AlJandal wind farm project will have a power generation capacity of 400 MW. It is expected to generate enough power to supply up to 70,000 Saudi households as it connects to the northern electricity grid.

Both projects came as part of the Kingdom’s industrial diversification strategy, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030, said minister of energy, Khalid Al-Falih.
