The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) was set up to address security, stability and prosperity in the region, stated Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz in the opening session of the 39th GCC summit hosted in Riyadh.
“I am sure we are all committed to maintain this entity, and bolster its role at present and onwards,” King Salman said, adding that “we must employ our efforts to serve the nation.”
Saudi Arabia hosts today the 39th GCC summit, chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Argaam reported.
The summit will focus on bolstering the GCC cooperation in the political, defense, economic and legal fields.
Talks will also address the strategic military cooperation and regional affairs, including the situation in Yemen, Syria, Palestine and Iraq, as well as the Iranian file. A number of issues, not on the summit agenda, may also be addressed.
The previous GCC summit was held in Kuwait in December 2017.
