Work on the 350,000 square meters Al Ghuwaifat Border Post Rehabilitation Project is currently 64 percent complete and is on track for opening in the first quarter of 2019, Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) said in a statement on Tuesday.

The $41 million project is being developed in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, the General Authority for the Security Ports, the General Directorate of Customs and the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, said a statement from Musanada.

The project aims to rehabilitate the border post between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which will further drive investment, development, tourism enhancement and trade between the two countries.

It will also improve the capacity of the border post and facilitate the movement of passengers between the two countries, while developing the services of the transport and passenger sector and upgrading the vehicles and truck lanes, the statement said.

In addition, Musanada said that an additional budget for the project has been requested in respect of public facilities, landscaping and a passenger rest area, in addition to general maintenance works for the areas outside Phase one of the project.
