King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) will open for domestic flights by mid-2019, Al-Madina newspaper reported, citing the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

The operations start-up is an internationally-applied method in airports, GACA added.

In May, KAIA started pilot operations in Terminal 1, as the airport is expected to accommodate around 50 million passengers annually.

In May 2017, GACA awarded Singapore-based Changi Airport Group a 20-year contract to operate KAIA.
