The total value of assets held by investment funds in Saudi Arabia jumped 15 percent year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 290.2 billion in 2018, data issued by the Capital Market Authority (CMA) show.
The increase was driven by a 26 percent YoY rise in the total value of assets held by private funds to SAR 178.3 billion in 2018. Private funds accounted for 61 percent of total fund assets in the Kingdom.
The value of public investment funds grew by 2 percent from the previous year to SAR 111.9 billion.
The number of subscribers in Saudi investment funds rose to 336,500 in 2018 from 242,400 a year earlier.
Meanwhile, the number of subscribers in public investment funds climbed 40 percent YoY to 332,600 for the same period.

The value of assets held by money market and equity funds stood at SAR 62.4 billion and SAR 20.7 billion respectively in 2018, representing 74 percent of total public funds’ assets.

Meanwhile, the value of assets held by equity and real estate funds came in at SAR 104.6 billion and SAR 58.3 billion respectively, accounting for 91 percent of the total assets of private funds.
