Midday work break to begin in Saudi Arabia from June 15

The three-month midday work break, prohibiting outdoor work during hot summer months between 12pm and 3pm, will begin in Saudi Arabia on June 15.

 

The Saudi Ministry of Labor and Social Development has called on local employers to regulate working hours and comply with the labor mandate that is designed to ensure the health and safety of workers.

 

The labor ministry's rule will apply to private sector companies and establishments in Saudi Arabia until Sep. 15, Saudi Press Agency reported, citing ministry spokesman Khalid Abalkhail.

 

The rule excludes oil and gas workers, as well as some governorates in the Kingdom where temperatures do not require such restrictions.

 

Other countries across the GCC, such as the UAE and Oman, have similar mandates in place to ensure midday breaks for outdoor workers during the summer.
