Saudi Arabia will take necessary measures to protect its ports and territorial waters, Energy Minister Khaled Al-Falih said in a statement, following attacks on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman on Thursday.
The energy ministry and the state oil giant Saudi Aramco have stepped up their readiness to deal with such terrorist acts, he said, pointing out that one of the oil tankers was carrying methanol from Jubail, the state news agency SPA reported.
Al-Falih reaffirmed the kingdom’s commitment to provide reliable oil supplies to international markets, and called on the international community to take responsibility and a firm action to secure maritime traffic in the region's waterways.
