Saudi Ceramic incurs SAR 32 mln loss in 9M 2017

Saudi Ceramic Co. swung to a net loss of SAR 32.2 million for the first nine months of 2017, compared to a net profit of SAR 29.4 million in the same period last year, impacted by  lower sales amid slowdown in the building materials market due to seasonal factors.

 

Lower profit margins also weighed on the results, as the ceramic producer reduced its selling prices of some products to increase its market share in some markets.

In the third quarter, the company narrowed net losses by 16.4 percent YoY to SAR 39.2 million, due to a rise in other operating revenue, lower selling, general and administrative expenses .

 

A drop in the company’s net loss share from associates and lower zakat expenses also contributed to reducing the third-quarter net losses. When compared to the previous quarter, Q3 net losses widened from SAR 5,148, on the back of lower sales and higher zakat expenses.
