Saudi Arabia’s inflation rose to 1.7% in September 2024 compared with the previous month, according to recent data by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The cost-of-living index for September rose to 111.58 points, according to the base year 2018, from 109.72 points in the same month a year earlier.
Inflation is measured by the percentage change in the cost of living between the current period and the year-ago period. The increase or decline in inflation is measured compared to the previous month.
The higher consumer price index (CPI) was primarily impacted by a 9.3% rise in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel prices, as well as a 0.8% increase in food and beverage prices.
The housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels sector was affected by a 11.2% rise in the rent paid for housing, driven by a 10% increase in apartment rental prices.
The rise in this sector had a significant impact on maintaining the annual inflation rate for September due to the weight it holds in the index, which amounts to 25.5%.
On the other hand, the prices in the furnishing and household equipment sector dropped by 3.7%, influenced by a 7% decrease in the prices of furniture, carpets, and floor coverings. Similarly, the prices in the clothing and footwear sector fell by 3.2%.
