Dow Jones snaps 7-session winning streak, loses over 500 points

US indices ended in the red on Thursday hurt by profit-takings and pressures on semiconductor shares on concerns about imposing more export restrictions.

International Market

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined for the first time since July 9, ending 1.3% or 533 points lower at 40,665 points.

 

The S&P 500 index fell by 0.8%, or 43 points, to 5,544 points. The Nasdaq Composite Index lost 0.7%, or 125 points, to 17,871 points.

 

As for European markets, the STOXX Europe 600 inched down 0.15% to 514 points.

 

The German DAX index fell 0.45% to 18,354 points, while the British FTSE index added 0.2% to close at 8,204 points. The French CAC 40 index also edged up 0.2% to 7,586 points.

 

The Nikkei index dropped 2.35%, or 971 points, to 40,126 points, and the broader Topix index fell 1.60% to 2,868 points.
