POS weekly transactions up to SAR 11.7 bln: SAMA
POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.69 billion in the week ended June 10, compared to SAR 13.82 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 173.92 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors’ sales decreased during the week, except for the education sector, which increased by 3%. The food and beverage sector, which fell by 23%, was the most affected. Hotels and telecommunications fell by 22% and 20%, respectively.
During the week, consumer spending was concentrated in the restaurants and cafes sector, which accounted for SAR 1.73 billion, followed by the food and beverage sector, which accounted for SAR 1.71 billion.

Riyadh led the way in terms of POS transaction value, accounting for nearly SAR 3.94 billion, or 34% of total sales. Jeddah came in second place with SAR 1.69 billion, as shown below:
