POS weekly transactions down to SAR 10.9 bln: SAMA
POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.92 billion in the week ended July 15, compared to SAR 11.19 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 171.25 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Jewelry and recreation and culture segments were the worst performers, falling by 26% and 11%, respectively. They were followed by clothing and footwear (10%).
On the other hand, education led the top-performing sectors, rising by 21%. The hotel sector followed at 7%.
Consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.72 billion, followed by the food and beverages sector with SAR 1.65 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value, with nearly SAR 3.39 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.56 billion, as indicated below:
