Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve board launches IDMP

The board of directors of Prince Mohammed bin Salman Royal Reserve Development Authority announced the launch of the Reserve’s Integrated Development Management Plan (IDMP).

The authority said the plan would establish a comprehensive roadmap adhering to top standards, covering environmental, economic, social, tourism, and cultural aspects. The reserve spans 24,500 square kilometers and includes 15 distinct ecosystems, from mountain hills to coral reefs, in the northwest of the Kingdom.

The authority added that the plan would enable efficient reserve management through guidelines for wildlife restoration and conservation based on global standards. It will also direct species reintroduction plans using modern technologies and develop eco-tourism, including the Amaala project within the reserve.

The integrated plan follows extensive studies on the reserve's historical and current environment, outlining steps to restore ecosystems, plants, and animals to their state from a century ago. The reserve is home to 15 unique ecosystems.

The plan is part of the Kingdom’s efforts to enhance its global environmental role, focusing on sustainability and conservation, reducing carbon emissions, achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, and promoting renewable energy and reforestation.

Additionally, the plan positions the Kingdom as a leader in wildlife reintroduction and conservation, aligning with the Royal Reserves Council’s strategic goals of wildlife protection, afforestation, eco-tourism promotion, and job creation. It supports the Saudi Green Initiative’s aim to protect 30% of the Kingdom’s land and marine areas by 2030.
