Meet Yasir Al Rumayyan, Aramco’s new chairman

Saudi Arabia named Yasir Al Rumayyan as Aramco’s new chairman, in an important step ahead of the firm’s public listing, according to a Tweet posted by Energy Minister and former chairman of the oil giant, Khalid Al-Falih.

 

Aramco’s new chairman holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from King Faisal University in Riyadh (1993). He has also completed a general management program at Harvard Business School (2007).

 

Al Rumayyan began his career at Saudi Hollandi Bank as head of international brokerage (1999 and 2004), before joining the Capital Market Authority (CMA) in 2004, where he worked for three years as head of securities listing.

 

During the period from 2008 to 2010, he served as CEO of Gulf Investment Co. then as CMA’s director of corporate financing.

 

Al Rumayyan was also the CEO of Saudi Fransi Capital (2011-2015), the investment banking arm of Banque Saudi Fransi. He was member of the board of the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) from 2014 to 2015.

 

Al Rumayyan was appointed as an advisor to the royal court in 2015.

 

In May 2016, he became an advisor to the cabinet, then a board member of the Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF).

 

Three months later, Al Rumayyan became a member of the board of Saudi Aramco.

 

In 2017, Yasir Al Rumayyan was appointed as governor of the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund.
