Crown Prince says officials selected for efficiency, but passion ‘most important’

Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said during a televised interview on April 27, 2021, that his team is selected based on merit, efficiency, and capability.

“The most important thing should be passion. The person-in-charge should have the passion; so when he assumes a certain position, it should be his passion – the biggest motivation,” the Crown Prince explained.

“If the person is not passionate about the work he is doing, it will be so difficult for him to achieve goals and aspirations. The same applies for many of our ministers,” he continued.

“If you put forward any name, I will tell you where his passion lies, where it emanates from, and how he can achieve what he wants,” Prince Mohammed elaborated.

“2015 was quite a difficult year. 80% of the ministries were not efficient. I wouldn’t even appoint them in the smallest of companies. In the Public Investment Fund (PIF), the second line was somewhat non-existent of deputies or under-secretaries, and the leaderships at the ministries were quite absent,” the Crown Prince added.

He further stated that to achieve anything, teamwork is of utmost importance that will help achieve the goals of the future.
