Saudi Arabia is aiming to invest more than $1 trillion in the tourism sector over the next 10 years, according to Minister of Tourism Ahmed Al Khateeb.

During his speech at the fifth edition of the Future Investment Initiative, Al-Khateeb said that the sector sees a big gap in sustainability as it needs more policies to protect the environment.

“Saudi Arabia is playing a very important role in bringing many initiatives on training, sustainability, or in bringing the world together to talk and address the main issues that is impacting the industry,” he added.

He further added that travel between countries has become complicated and Saudi Arabia is trying to reach a consensus on health measures to facilitate movement.

“The pandemic will end soon and we are awaiting a wave of growth as this industry is very important,” Al Khateeb noted.

He further stated that this will create more job opportunities with women occupying 54% of the travel and tourism jobs.
