POS weekly transactions down to SAR 10.1 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.12 billion in the week ended July 22, compared to SAR 10.92 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 159.62 million transactions were processed during the week. 

 

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decline in POS transactions during the week, except for the hotels sector that rose 9%.

 

Jewelry reported the highest decline, falling by 11%, followed by education and telecommunications (-10% each). Recreation & culture and clothes and footwear declined 9% each.

 

Consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes in the week, with nearly SAR 1.58 billion, followed by the food and beverages with SAR 1.52 billion.

Riyadh topped in POS transaction value, with nearly SAR 3.24 billion, or 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.4 billion, as indicated below:
