POS weekly transactions up to SAR 11.9 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.92 billion in the week ended July 29, compared to SAR 10.12 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 173.39 million transactions were processed during the week. 

 

POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed an increase in POS transactions during the week, led by the telecommunications sector that rose 34%.

 

The education sector gained 31%, while the food and beverages grew 28%.

 

Consumer spending focused on the food and beverages in the week, with nearly SAR 1.95 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes with SAR 1.76 billion.

Riyadh topped in POS transaction value, with nearly SAR 3.72 billion, or 31% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.68 billion, as indicated below:
