POS device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.97 billion in the week ended Aug. 12, compared to SAR 12.66 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 178.96 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decrease in POS transactions during the week, except for education, which rose by 61%.
Jewelry led the declining sectors as it retreated 10%, followed by electronics & electric appliances and miscellaneous goods & services (-9% each).
Consumer spending focused on the restaurants & cafes sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.81 billion, followed by food & beverages with SAR 1.74 billion.

Riyadh led the way in POS transaction value, accounting for nearly SAR 3.75 billion, or 31% of total sales. Jeddah came in second place with SAR 1.75 billion, as shown below:
