POS weekly transactions down to SAR 11.4 bln: SAMA

POS device


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 11.37 billion in the week ended Aug. 26, compared to SAR 12 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

About 166.1 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent consumer spending using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Most sectors witnessed a decrease in POS transactions during the week, except for four sectors.

 

The food and beverage sector topped the increases, up by 3%, followed by telecommunications, recreation and culture at 2% each, and education at 1%.

 

Consumer spending focused on the food and beverage sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.72 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes with SAR 1.51 billion.

Riyadh led in POS transaction value, accounting for nearly SAR 3.89 billion, or 34% of total sales. Jeddah came in second place with SAR 1.68 billion, as shown below:
