POS weekly transactions reach SAR 13.8 bln: SAMA

POS device


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 13.84 billion in the week ended Sept. 2, compared to SAR 11.37 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

About 195.6 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent consumer spending using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Most sectors witnessed a rise in POS transactions during the week, except for the education sector, which declined 30%. 

  

The telecommunications sector topped the increases, up by 38%, followed by the food and beverages sector at 34% and the health sector at 33%. 

  

Consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 2.31 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes with SAR 1.85 billion.

Riyadh led in POS transaction value, accounting for nearly SAR 4.46 billion, or 32% of total sales. Jeddah came in second place with SAR 1.95 billion, as shown below:
