POS weekly transactions hit SAR 13.6 bln: SAMA

POS device


Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 13.62 billion in the week ended Sept. 30, compared to roughly SAR 10.87 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that about 191.14 million transactions were processed during the week.

 

POS transactions represent consumer spending using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed an increase in terms of POS transactions in the past week.

 

The telecommunications sector topped the best-performing sectors, rising by 55%, followed by jewelry as well as the food and beverages (F&B) sectors at 47% and 46%, respectively.

 

Consumer spending focused on the F&B sector for the week, with nearly SAR 2.29 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.81 billion.

Riyadh led in terms of POS transactions’ value for the same week, accounting for nearly SAR 4.44 billion, or 33%, of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.87 billion, as shown below:
