Dubai-based shopping mall developer Majid Al Futtaim will invest SAR 14 billion to build two malls in Saudi Arabia’s capital city, the company said in a statement Monday.
Mall of Saudi, which Majid Al Futtaim claims will be the kingdom’s largest, will come up in north Riyadh. The first phase of development is expected to start by mid-2017, and the project is slated for completion by 2022.
Its total land area has been earmarked at 866,000 square meters (sqm), with plans to include 300,000 sqm of shops, restaurants, and entertainment areas.
Majid Al Futtaim will also introduce its City Centre brand to the kingdom with City Centre Ishbiliyah in east Riyadh, which will cover over 100,000 sqm of gross leasable area. The 250-store mall will hold a Carrefour hypermarket, a food court, and an entertainment complex, the statement said.
The company did not include a timetable for City Centre’s construction works.
