UAE’s LuLu Group is set to open its first hypermarket in Jeddah, which will be the group’s seventh store in Saudi Arabia, local media reported.
The Abu Dhabi-based retail giant has already invested SAR 1 billion in the kingdom and will invest a further SAR 800 million over the next two years, said group chairman Yusuffali M.A, quoted by the Saudi Gazette. It also plans to employ 5,000 Saudi nationals by the end of 2018.
“Ever since we have set foot in Saudi Arabia, we have been witnessing tremendous success in all our endeavors in the Kingdom’s retail sector,” the chairman said, adding that the policies announced under the government’s Vision 2030 initiative will provide a fresh boost to non-oil activities in the country.
The group will open four more hypermarkets this year, including one in Briman in Jeddah and two in Hail and Hofuf.
“By 2018, we will launch eight more hypermarkets in the Kingdom including in the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah,” Yusuffali said.
LuLu Group currently employs 1,700 Saudi men and women.
