Saudi Arabia opens special commercial courts

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Justice on Sunday officially launched three commercial courts in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

 

The commercial courts, which started working earlier this month, are in addition to special commercial chambers within general courts in a number of Saudi cities and special appeal chambers with 173 judges.

 

This move aims to speed up resolution of commercial disputes, improve the quality of the judicial output, boost the investment and business environment in the Kingdom, Minister of Justice Waleed Al-Samaani said.

 

The ministry had started by mid-last year to transfer the commercial chambers and the chambers of commercial appeal to the general courts, including judges, staff, electronic programs and facilities to the new three commercial courts, he added.
