Saudi cement exports to Bahrain stood at almost 60,000 tons for a one-month period from Mar. 15 to mid-April 2018, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported on Monday, citing Faisal Shehab, chief executive of Bahrain’s United Cement Co.

Agreements were signed with several cement firms, particularly in the eastern province, Shehab said, expecting export volumes to reach 70,000 tons by the end of this year.

Saudi cement freights have a preferential privilege as shipping to Bahrain with the related clearance procedures take almost 36 hours, compared to 5 days for the United Arab Emirates exports.

Bahraini investors imported the Saudi cement, following the Kingdom’s decision to lift export bans on cement, he added.

Riyadh scrapped cement export fees on Feb. 1, 2018, Argaam reported.
