The Haramain high-speed railway and the new King Abdulaziz Airport will become operational this year, making 2018 a turning point for Makkah’s transport sector, Nabil Ala'amoodi, Minister of Transport, said at the Makkah Economic Forum on Sunday.
The commercial operations of the Middle East’s fastest train are expected to start in the third quarter this year, he said.
Haramain rail will have an annual capacity of 60 million passengers. Its trial run was conducted in November 2017.
Ala'amoodi said that King Abdulaziz Airport’s first operational phase is set to start this month, adding that the airport has the capacity to receive 50 million travelers each year.
