Saudi Arabia to spend SAR 12 bln to build 18 water projects: report

Saudi Arabia plans to build 18 water projects worth SAR 12 billion ($3.2 billion) over the next ten years to enhance the quality of drinking water across the Kingdom, Asharq Al-Awsat reported, citing Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley

 

The minister added that Water and Electricity Company (WEC) will soon change its name to the “Water Projects” and the new company will be tasked with water services, treatment, transport and storage to serve the private sector and investment seekers.

 

Furthermore, the ministry has completed a platform to support the private sector and introduced regulations and law that gives support the participation of the private sector in water projects.

 

According to Al-Fadley, the ministry is working with international companies in the field of water desalination and aims to reach 70 percent localization in the field of operation and maintenance.
