Emaar EC’s H1 profit slumps 93%

Emaar The Economic City (Emaar EC), the developer of King Abdullah Economic City, reported a net profit of SAR 16 million for the first half of 2017, a 92.9 percent plunge year-on-year (YoY) mainly attributed to lower residential sales.

 

An increase in depreciation charges, higher capitalization of infrastructure assets and financing charges also weighed on the developer's first-half results.

The second-quarter net profit fell by 85.4 percent YoY to SAR 35 million, hurt by a rise in financing charges due to higher long term loans and interest rates.

In Q2 2017, the company swung to a net profit compared to a net loss of SAR 19 million, helped by an increase in industrial land sales.
