POS weekly transactions at SAR 10.9 bln: SAMA
POS device
Point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.87 billion in the week ended Sept. 23, compared to roughly SAR 11.19 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 173.9 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent consumer spending using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

The electronics & electric appliances topped the best performing sectors, rising by 23%, followed by clothes & footwear and furniture with a 7% weekly increase each.
In return, the education sector led decliners with a 20% weekly drop, followed by food & beverages (12%).
Consumer spending focused on the restaurants & cafes sector for the week, with nearly SAR 1.64 billion, followed by the food & beverages sector with SAR 1.57 billion.

Riyadh led in terms of POS transactions’ value for the same week, accounting for nearly SAR 3.63 billion, or 33%, of the total. Jeddah came in second with SAR 1.59 billion, as shown below:
