POS transactions hit SAR 10.55 bln in week ending Feb. 5: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions amounted to SAR 10.55 billion in the week ending Feb. 5, 2022, compared to SAR 10.45 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that a total of 129 million transactions were processed.
POS transactions represent what is spent by consumers using their ATM cards and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

The hotels sector topped best performers, increasing 30%, followed by jewellery with a rise of 15% as well as restaurants and cafes with 9%.
Meanwhile, the education sector led decliners, with a drop of 41%. It was followed by the food and beverages and the telecommunications that fell by 6% and 5%, respectively.
Consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector in the week, with nearly SAR 1.62 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.55 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with nearly SAR 3.27 billion, representing 31% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.68 billion.
