Saudi Arabia's international reserve assets retreated by SAR 45.6 billion, or 3%, month-on-month (MoM) to SAR 1.72 trillion in December 2022, according to the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA).

 

On a yearly basis, the Kingdom’s reserve assets grew 1%, or SAR 16.8 billion.

 

Saudi Arabia’s reserve assets include five items, which are investments in foreign securities, foreign currency deposits, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) reserve position, special drawing rights (SDRs) and monetary gold.

Foreign currency reserves, representing 95% of total assets, grew by nearly 1% year-on-year (YoY) in December, to SAR 1.63 trillion. IMF reserves rose YoY by 1%, while SDRs fell 4%, as shown below:
