POS device
The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 13.2 billion in the week ended March 11, compared to SAR 14.57 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 174.65 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

All sectors witnessed a decline during the week, except for clothes & footwear and hotels sectors, which rose by 4% and 9%, respectively.
Education sector saw the steepest decline of 60%, followed by telecommunications (22%) and health (18%).
During the week, consumer spending focused on the food and beverages sector, reaching nearly SAR 2.03 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.97 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 4.19 billion, or 32% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 2.02 billion, as indicated below:
