Retail investors on Tadawul rise to 5.94 mln in Q2 2023

The number of individual investors on the Saudi Exchange (Tadawul) reached 5.94 million by the end of Q2 2023, an increase of 89,000 compared with the previous quarter.

 

The number of male investors reached 4.37 million in Q2 2023, while the number of female investors grew to 1.56 million, according to a recent report issued by the Capital Market Authority (CMA).

 

In addition, the number of retail investor portfolios stood at nearly 11.3 million by the end of Q2 2023.

 

The number of portfolios, which is almost twice the number of investors, indicates that some investors have more than one investment portfolio.

Saudi individual investors in all domestic stock markets owned SAR 835.4 billion worth of shares by the end of Q2 2023, accounting for nearly 7.7% of total market value of SAR 10.90 trillion.

 

Individual professional investors and high-net-worth investors (HNIs) owned stocks worth SAR 433.8 billion and SAR 247 billion, respectively.

 

The CMA defines HNIs as a Saudi individual who owns a portfolio of an average size of SAR 1 million or more during the last 12 months, excluding individual professional investors.

 

Ownership of government-related entities (GREs) in Saudi-listed companies, which accounted for 73% of the total market value, dropped 11% year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 8 trillion in Q2 2023.

 

Saudi corporates’ ownership reached SAR 1.27 trillion, up 40% YoY, while mutual funds’ ownership stood at SAR 306.7 billion in the same period, increasing by 8% YoY.

 

Meanwhile, qualified foreign investors (QFIs) owned SAR 298.4 billion worth of stocks by the end of the three-month period, a rise of 5% YoY.
