Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 11.69 billion for the week ended March 16, compared to SAR 14.77 billion in the previous week.

The number of POS transactions reached about 168.62 million last week, according to data issued by SAMA.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

During the week, all sectors saw a decrease in POS, headed by the education sector, which dipped by 54% week-on-week (WoW), followed by restaurants and cafes sector by 38% and recreation and culture sector by 30%.
Consumer spending was focused on the F&B sector, totaling SAR 2.26 billion during the week, followed by the miscellaneous goods and services sector with SAR 1.39 billion.
