Saudi air defense forces intercepted seven ballistic missiles fired by Houthi militia in Yemen towards various civilian areas in the Kingdom on Sunday night, according to an official statement published by the Saudi Press Agency.
Three missiles were fired towards Riyadh, two towards Jazan, and one each towards Khamis Mushait and Najran in a “random and absurd manner to target civilian, populated areas,” Colonel Turki Al-Maliki, the official spokesman of the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen, was quoted as saying.
Interception of the missiles led to the fall of fragments on some residential neighborhoods, which resulted in the death of an Egyptian expatriate and wounding of two others.
Al-Maliki said the firing of ballistic missiles towards populated cities and villages is contrary to international humanitarian law.
